Get in tune!

I was born with the ability and keen ear to play musical instruments. Almost any one of them, put it in front of me and I will play a basic song. I know how the song is supposed to sound and whether the instrument I am playing is in tune or not.

The Lord asks us to be instruments in his hands. He is an expert "musician" when it comes to playing any song, or in this case guiding us to lead the best lives we can. He does everything he can to play the right notes in our lives. But if we are not in tune with the spirit, we will be an out of tune instrument in his hands! An instrument that is in tune can create beautiful sounds and tones that when strung together, make ear-pleasing music. But when an instrument is out of tune, it is not only frustrating for all who are listening to the song, but for the musician as well! So not only do all those we come in contact with notice, but Heavenly Father especially does. He could be playing all the right notes, but if the instrument isn't in tune, it won't be pretty! So we have to get in tune! on our own, we can't really tune ourselves without a basis on what sounds we need to make, or what we need to do in life. That's why we need a spiritual tuning fork!

What a tuning fork does, is when you hit it on something, it makes a noise. That noise is a note in perfect tune. When tuning an instrument, the musician will play the tuning fork and play that not on the instrument at the same time and tune the instrument so that the note sounds exactly like the note from the tuning fork. We are lucky enough in our time to have our own tuning forks for all of the different aspects of our lives. Those are the scriptures! We can read them to know how to live our lives and what we need to change to be more in tune with the standards God wants us to live. And when we do tune ourselves, we will be effective instruments in the hands of our Heavenly Father.

Mosiah 23:10
"Nevertheless, after much tribulation, the Lord did hear my cries, and did answer my prayers, and has made me an instrument in his hands in bringing so many of you to a knowledge of his truth."

Hot or Cold?

Imagine, relaxing in a scorching hot tub after a nice long day, just soaking it all in! When you are done, you step out into a foot of snow! How does your leg feel? Tingly? Hurts a bit, it isn't a pleasant at all huh? Then you keep you leg in the snow and it begins to go numb, so you are no longer feeling the unpleasant cold of the snow.

The warmth of you body is like you spiritual sensitivity. When you become warm in the hot tub, your senses (especially touch) are heightened. Just like when you immerse yourself in a very wholesome lifestyle, your spiritual senses are heightened. So when you are nice and warm and hit the cold, it is not pleasant at all and makes you want to crawl back into the hot tub. But when you stay in the snow, you become numb to it and no longer feel it. Just like with our spirits, we enjoy life so much when we live in accordance to the gospel and live a pure wholesome life, and even the touch of sin or coldness makes us want to retreat back to living, because it hurts at first! But if we selfishly choose to numb ourselves and venture into the cold, we will freeze virtually without even knowing it until it is too late. And if you are frozen and intend on getting warm again, you must do so slowly, as not to shock the body. Once you are warm enough from building yourself back up to heat slowly, then you can enjoy that hot tub again! So keep yourselves spiritually alert and conditioned at all times!

Well... What do you want?

Who wouldn't want a brand new car? Or a nicer house! Maybe even a movie theater in your basement! And the most common one, MORE MONEY!!! Well think of those things that you want most in your life. Think of the things you work hardest for in life.
Are they those things I talked about above? Are they what we really shoud be seeking for? Let us consult with Jacob on this matter!

"But before ye seek for riches, seek ye for the Kingdom of God." Jacob 2:18

Jacob counsels us here that our primary goal should always be doing those things you need to do in order to abide in God's Kindom! Some of those things may include doing the small things like reading scriptures or praying or spending more time with family. There are many ways that we can seek first the Kingdom of God.

So game over right, that's all we gotta do! Seek for the Kingdom of God and everything falls into place? Not really. We still need money, work for your pay! Just make sure you know what you are working for! You need to survive and provide for your family. You need to pay bills. You need to pay an honest tithe. Now after all of that is done, should we go out and buy really really nice things with the rest of the money? Let's see what Jacob thinks!

"And after ye have obtained riches, if ye seek them; and ye will seek them for the intent to do good- to clothe the naked, and feed the hungry, and to liberate the captive, and administer relief to the sick and afflicted." Jacob 2:19

Well, that explains it pretty nicely! You will get riches when you intend on using them the right way! Help the world be a better place with what God has blessed you with! return thanks to him daily for what he has given you and he will be more willing to give you more!

Exercise your faith!

When you think of the word exercise, what do you think of? I think of running, working out and lifting weights. I do these things to make myself more physically fit and ready for whatever it is be it a football game, or just to stay in shape for anything life throws at me!

I thought to myself, do I exercise my faith like I did my body for sports? I know that faith grows the same way our muscles do as we exercise it. When I am exercising my faith in the Lord and following the promptings I receive, I grow spiritually and my faith in the Lord increases. But when I am not using my faith and am doubting or fearful of what might happen, my faith begins to slowly deteriorate and I lose it! Like working out it is easy to stop exercising and lose what I gained. My faith is either growing or I am losing faith. We should all do everything in our power to keep exercising faith in the Lord, and as Alma puts beautifully

Now, we will compare the word unto a seed. Now, if ye give place, that a seed may be planted in your heart, behold, if it be a true seed, or a good seed, if ye do not cast it out by your unbelief, that ye will resist the Spirit of the Lord, behold, it will begin to swell within your breasts; and when you feel these swelling motions, ye will begin to say within yourselves—It must needs be that this is a good seed, or that the word is good, for it beginneth to enlarge my soul; yea, it beginneth to enlighten my understanding, yea, it beginneth to be delicious to me.

So this is a mission.....

To start off my blogging carreer as a missionary, I just want to say that I am happy for the privilege I get to preach the gospel online and to help others come closer to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
