Get in tune!

I was born with the ability and keen ear to play musical instruments. Almost any one of them, put it in front of me and I will play a basic song. I know how the song is supposed to sound and whether the instrument I am playing is in tune or not.

The Lord asks us to be instruments in his hands. He is an expert "musician" when it comes to playing any song, or in this case guiding us to lead the best lives we can. He does everything he can to play the right notes in our lives. But if we are not in tune with the spirit, we will be an out of tune instrument in his hands! An instrument that is in tune can create beautiful sounds and tones that when strung together, make ear-pleasing music. But when an instrument is out of tune, it is not only frustrating for all who are listening to the song, but for the musician as well! So not only do all those we come in contact with notice, but Heavenly Father especially does. He could be playing all the right notes, but if the instrument isn't in tune, it won't be pretty! So we have to get in tune! on our own, we can't really tune ourselves without a basis on what sounds we need to make, or what we need to do in life. That's why we need a spiritual tuning fork!

What a tuning fork does, is when you hit it on something, it makes a noise. That noise is a note in perfect tune. When tuning an instrument, the musician will play the tuning fork and play that not on the instrument at the same time and tune the instrument so that the note sounds exactly like the note from the tuning fork. We are lucky enough in our time to have our own tuning forks for all of the different aspects of our lives. Those are the scriptures! We can read them to know how to live our lives and what we need to change to be more in tune with the standards God wants us to live. And when we do tune ourselves, we will be effective instruments in the hands of our Heavenly Father.

Mosiah 23:10
"Nevertheless, after much tribulation, the Lord did hear my cries, and did answer my prayers, and has made me an instrument in his hands in bringing so many of you to a knowledge of his truth."
